Director of GuidanceRequirements Successful candidates must possess:NYS Administrative Certification (SDL or SBL) Job Description:Provide leadership, direction, and promotion of a comprehensive school counseling program so that each student may derive maximum benefit from the educational program, as well as meet their needs with respect to personal and career goals. Primary Responsibilities:Conducts counselor observations using current evaluation process. Supports counselors in the implementation of suggestions provided during the evaluation processPlans, coordinates and conducts monthly department meetingsDevelops, recommends and facilitates opportunities for professional growth for departmentEnsures the comprehensive school guidance plan is current and implemented with fidelityOversees K-12 classroom lessons specific to topics of college/career readinessReviews student outcome data and current academic opportunities to identify curriculum connections and needs to enhance student opportunities.Engages in analysis and planning: assessment data, college outcome data, needs/goals.Creates/shares department communication tools/publications.Supervises the administration of the college visitation program; ensuring a maintenance of good relations with college liaisons.Coordinates mailings and email blasts to parents with current information regarding guidance programs in the district and pertinent information for students regarding the college application process, offerings and programs.Provides parent presentations including grade-level specific orientations, financial aid, college planning and other presentations required as needed.Informs students and parents of scholarship awards and eligibility requirements.Ensures the department website updates are informative and timely.Works collaboratively with School administration and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to regularly review Jr/Sr High course offerings.Works collaboratively with the Executive Director of PPS to ensure development and compliance of K-12 Developmental Guidance Plans.Has comprehensive understanding of student management system (eSD), Naviance and College Board assessment portal. Provides parent and student training where needed on proper use of programs.General Administration/LeadershipPrepares and delivers reports as required or requested.Participates in the developments of the High School master schedule through collaboration with counselors, departmental directors and building principal.Annual review and revision of Program of Study to ensure that entries are timely, accurate and meet NYSED and NCAA standards and local diploma requirements.Attends Chairperson, Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction and Board of Education meetings.Works with Assistant Principal to run and post to portals: report cards, progress reports, transcripts, schedules, course requests and all other student reports.Cover letter may be addressed to Mona Hecht, Assistant Superintendent for Counseling, Student Services & Human Resources.No telephone calls, please
