Job Overview: The Charter School of Educational Excellence seeks a passionate, innovative English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to inspire students to reach their maximum potential. This role involves fostering a love for learning, building relationships, and creating an engaging space where the students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will be committed to helping students from diverse backgrounds improve their English language skills. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans and assessing the students’ progress. Compensation & Benefits: Salary is based on education, teaching experience, and certification. Annual Salary range; $58,410 -80,520. Health insurance, participating school in the New York State Teacher Retirement System (NYSTRS), paid leave, professional development, and assigned parking space. Responsibilities and Duties: Administer diagnostic and state-mandated assessments of English Language Learners. Utilize formal and informal assessment data to drive instruction and ensure student mastery of standards. Evaluate, determine goals for, and track the progress of individual English language learners, and communicate with faculty, students, and families. Provide direct instruction to small groups of students and/or provide inclusion support for ELA classes containing ELL students, based on caseload. Design the curriculum and supplementary material that challenge the learning ability of students and ensure overall development of language. Advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for students and share best practices to ensure high-quality instruction. Implement and deliver quality instruction to students that prepare students to pass the NYSESLAT. Actively participate in grade-level meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, digital technology, and augment authentic learning, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for ELL education teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other duties as assigned by the Principal/supervisor or designee. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required ; Master’s degree is preferred Valid NYS ESOL Teacher Certification (All Grades) is required Bilingual Certified preferred or Spanish proficiency is preferred Work experience & skills: Minimum of two years of experience as an ELL certified teacher Able to improve curriculum and instruction through collaboration as part of a grade-level team Passionately dedicated to the school’s mission with a steadfast belief that all students will receive a rigorous middle school foundation Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required to develop rubrics, examine data, and metrics that will enhance student knowledge and promote performance of superior work products Proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a diverse team of teachers and administrators Knowledge of childhood development and demonstrated experience with executing planned lessons to meet the differential needs of each student Strong written, grammatical, presentation, and verbal communication skills Experience working with at-risk student population in some capacity preferred Educational experience after college (fellowships, summer study, or graduate course work to pursue greater depth in a subject area, specific instructional methodology, curriculum development, special education, technology, etc.) preferred Proficiency in educational technology (e.g., interactive whiteboards, Google Classroom, i-Ready). Mastery of content knowledge in assigned area (s) of instruction Strong classroom management and organizational skills Excellent communication skills and a commitment to culturally responsive teaching Passion for working with diverse student populations and supporting the school’s mission and vision Work Environment: The teacher must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Teachers often supervise students beyond the classroom (hallways and school events) as part of their routine duties. They are expected to maintain a safe and orderly environment in all school settings and follow all school safety protocols and procedures.
