Minimum Requirements: License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NYSBS or BSN is preferred.Job Description:Responsibilities include protecting and maintaining students’ health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with nursing standards and NYS licensing.Assures student records are current and updated regularly and maintained in accordance with NYS mandated and annual screening protocols. These include but are not limited to immunization records, vision, hearing, height, weight, scoliosis, and health forms.Develop and implement Individual Health Plans, including a procedure to evaluate, revise and discontinue the plan, as appropriate for students.Correspond with other site nurses to assure Cleary students medical/health records are up to date and on file.Inform parents/guardians, teachers, and students of health conditions subject to Federal and State confidentiality laws.Assure that health examinations are accessible and conducted for those students who have not had a health examination performed by a health care provider in accordance with school protocol and NYS mandates.Function as the emergency health care provider with knowledge and experience in the delivery of emergency cardiac care for the school’s defibrillator(s).Train staff on use and maintenance of defibrillators.Provide training to unlicensed school staff who may administer epinephrine auto-injector or glucagon to students with patient specific orders for such medical emergencies.Guide parents, students, and staff in the procedures for preventing and limiting the spread of infectious disease.Instruct school personnel in procedures to follow in the event of accident or illness.Provide ongoing health related counseling for parents, students and school personnel and health agencies. Provide resource information to families, and students as needed.Write and submit health reports to principal or designee for student’s IEP meetings.Plans and implements school wide health management protocols for chronically ill and medically fragile students including dressing changes, gastronomy feeding tubes and the administration of medications following individualized medical orders.Maintains logs on daily health/accidents/incidents of students and staff.Makes contact with parents in cases of unreported student absence, in accordance with school policies and procedures.Maintains inventory of all supplies needed for the school’s nurse’s office and the health and safety of all students and staff to assure items are current and on hand.Responsibilities for other tasks assigned by the school’s principal or any member of the school’s administration team, as needed.Cleary School for the Deaf is committed to diversity in the workplace, and provides equal employment opportunities for all.
