Probationary Academic Intervention Services Teacher (Grades 5-8) Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School has an anticipated vacancy for a probationary Academic Intervention Services teacher who will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate classroom activities in an innovative educational setting. The successful candidate will be able to:Articulate and apply innovative strategies and thoughtful risk taking to identify opportunities to help students engage in learning and personal growth;Provide direct instruction to students identified as eligible for reading services in individual, and/or small group settings that facilitate active learning experiences;Effectively organize the classroom environment, instructional materials, maximize learning;Adhere to the district philosophy regarding behavior management and implement all relevant techniques appropriately. Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a productive learning environment;Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives to promote the growth of all learners;Utilize a systematic multisensory approach to literacy instruction;Assist struggling students to improve their literacy skills; Collaborate with teachers in all departments to promote the learning and implementation of best practices in literacy instruction;Support school-wide efforts to improve literacy instruction; Create and examine data to measure the success of literacy programs and specialized instruction; Maintain accurate and complete records as required;Have the ability to self-evaluate, be reflective and problem-solve;Possess effective communication skills and the ability to communicate with various stakeholders;Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education:Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Literacy or similar areaExperience:1-3 years of classroom experience in a literacy/reading and experience with Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson Reading Programs Certificates & Licenses:NYS certified in Early Childhood Education or Students with Disabilities, Adolescent 7-12, with 5-6 Extension, or Students with Disabilities, Middle Childhood 5-9 and Literacy. Dual certification is preferred.
