CROTON-HARMON UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICTAnticipated Vacancy for the 2024-25 School YearProbationary Special Education Teacher (Grades 5-8)Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School has an anticipated vacancy for a probationary Special Education teacher who will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate classroom activities in an innovative educational setting based on established IEP goals, student needs and evidence-based practices.The successful candidate will be able to:Articulate and apply innovative strategies and thoughtful risk taking to identify opportunities to help students engage in learning and personal growth.Collaborate with various stakeholders in the implementation of student-centered models of education and support.Provide instruction in a variety of settings, use effective instructional techniques customized to individual students’ goals and objectives; provide appropriate instructions to other classroom staff.Effectively organize the classroom environment, instructional materials, and schedule to match and maximize learning.Adhere to the district philosophy regarding behavior management and implement all relevant techniques appropriately. Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a productive learning environment.Maintain appropriate and effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent for PPS, school administrators and other staff. Comply with regulatory requirements and district policy and procedures in all areas. Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use of appropriate program modifications and accommodations to provide all learners with access to the general education curriculum. Utilize a systematic multisensory approach to literacy instruction.Assist struggling students to improve their literacy skills Collaborates with teachers in all departments to promote the learning and implementation of best practices in literacy instruction Support school-wide efforts to improve literacy instruction Create and examine data to measure the success of literacy programs and specialized instruction. Maintain accurate and complete records as required.Have the ability to self-evaluate, be reflective and problem solve.Perform all other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation:Master’s Degree in Special Education or similar Experience:1-3 years of classroom experience in a Special Education setting for school-age children with disabilities is required. 1-3 years of experience in multisensory literacy instruction is preferred. Classroom experience preferred.Certificates & Licenses:Must be NYS certified in Students with Disabilities, Adolescent 7-12, with 5-6 Extension, or Students with Disabilities, Middle Childhood 5-9 and Literacy
