This position involves responsibility for assisting in the supervision of safe and efficient operation, repair and maintenance of transportation facilities of a large central school district. In addition, the incumbent oversees and coordinates compliance with the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law to ensure that School Bus Drivers are hired, supervised, trained and periodically examined in accordance with the Law. An employee in this class works under administrative direction of the Transportation Supervisor with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work. The assistant Transportation Supervisor exercises supervision over the work of the bus dispatcher, head mechanic, and office staff members in the absence of the Transportation Supervisor. Does related work as required.
