LOCATION: Career & Technical Education – Adult Health Careers Program @ Albany Campus (M-TH 3:00PM – 7:00PM)BASIC FUNCTION:To instruct adult students in the proper practices, procedures and skills associated with a phlebotomist. To instruct students to meet entry level skills allowing them to enter the job market that pays them a living wage; or to continue their education at the post-secondary level. To be involved in developing partnership programs with local businesses, colleges and universities.QUALIFICATIONS:A. Must have at least the last five (5) years of experience in the teaching or instruction within the Phlebotomy Technician field; andB. Must meet New York State Adult Education Job Skills Training Instructor certificate which can be found at https://eservices.nysed.gov/teach/certhelp/search-cert-reqs C. The candidate will have demonstrated the ability to provide sound instruction, ability to work in a team environment, work collaboratively with staff and administration. D. Must possess good written and verbal skills. RESPONSIBILITIES:1. The classroom instructor will be responsible to develop in each student an awareness and understanding of the basic skills and knowledge associated in becoming a phlebotomy technician in the health care environment. 2. Evaluate student progress and instruct students in theory as per curriculum. Course will cover drawing blood from patients and blood donors; evaluating patients’ ability to withstand the procedure & helping them feel comfortable; explaining blood-drawing procedure to patients & answering questions; performing basic point-of-care testing (such as reading blood glucose levels); preparing blood, urine and other specimens for testing; and maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes and blood vials. 3. The instructor will be responsible for developing and evaluating student progress, instilling safe work habits and stressing the importance of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability in work environment as well. 4. In addition to classroom, the instructor will be responsible for supervising and evaluating student progress in the live sticks in the hospital setting. 5. The instructor will work within the facilities to provide the experience portion of the program.
