LOCATION: Career & Technical Education – 925B Watervliet-Shaker RoadBASIC FUNCTION:The work involves full administrative responsibility and oversight for managing all BOCES Health Careers & Services programs, including the expansion of quality health careers programs and services. The work is performed under the general administrative supervision of the Assistant District Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work and has responsibility for supervising subordinate staff. The incumbent does related work as required. Reports to the Assistant District Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction. CERTIFIED QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with at least a Master’s degree in Educational Administration, or related field.A valid license as a Registered Nurse.Valid New York State SDA or SDL certificate required.Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a health careers education setting. ORCIVIL SERVICE QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Nursing Education, Nursing Administration or closely related field, andEight (8) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse which shall have included five (5) years of experience in a nursing education program.Special Requirement: Must possess and maintain a license as a Registered Nurse as issued by New York State. Possession of a CPR certification at the time of appointment and throughout employment. The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001. RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides leadership for strategic planning and direction in the growth, expansion, development and implementation of health careers services and programs.Ensures the development and implementation of an ongoing expansion plan to meet industry needs and student achievement in accordance with all applicable laws, organizational rules, policies, and regulations set forth by various agencies such as NYSED, DOH and OOPS.Provides direct supervision to Principal- Health Careers & Services.Develops and administers an annual budget for all health career & services programs in conjunction with the Director of Business Operations, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, Health Careers & Services principal, and other D.S. staff members as appropriate to ensure program needs are being met.Oversees and manages all active grants awarded to Health Careers & Services programs.Oversees the process of personnel administration which includes recruitment, employment, supervision, and staff development in accordance with applicable BOCES policies and procedures in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources and the human resources staff.Oversees the completion of required data collection and reporting, including but not limited to Federal Student Aid reports and various data reports.Serves as liaison to the Office of Professions to ensure that our programs continue to meet the requirements to maintain our eligibility for Title IV funding through each audit.Serves as liaison to NYSED, NYSDOH and NYSOOP for secondary and adult programs to ensure that programs meet all NYSED requirements.Ensures that health careers programs and services meet the academic and clinical requirements necessary to allow the students of the programs to take various licensing and certification exams, as dictated by NYS.Manages all contracts pertaining to health careers programs and services, from initiation through completion.Cultivates and maintains relationships with various local and statewide health care facilities to enhance clinical experiences for students within the various health careers programs offered.Communicates with medical director via electronic and/or meetings each year to review standing orders, obtain prescriptions for multiple locations and review policy for BOCES.Serves as an active member of the Capital Region BOCES Leadership Team.Participates in relevant national, state, and regional associations.Recommends the purchase of equipment and supplies under the guidance of the business office staff.Performs other tasks as assigned by the Assistant District Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.Thorough knowledge of health careers education principles and methods.Thorough knowledge of health careers and services laws and regulations.Good knowledge of educational budgeting methods and procedures.Thorough knowledge of health careers educational issues and trends.Ability to supervise staff personnel in multiple locations.Ability to develop and administer a budget.Ability to establish and maintain good relations with representatives of various groups such as health care industry leaders, state agencies, area educators and the general public.Ability to write in a clear, concise and creative manner.Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
