School Purchasing Agent – 12 months/FT: Provisional Salary: $75,124 Includes a comprehensive benefits package: health, dental, life and disability insurance; paid holidays and sick/personal/vacation time. Historic annual salary increases over 3.5%. Summary of Responsibilities: The position functions as a central administrative support role within the Business Office, performing purchasing, fiscal compliance, Medicaid administration, data management, and audit-related duties. The work requires independent judgment, interpretation of regulations, and coordination across departments and with external agencies and vendors. A thorough understanding of purchasing law, rules & regulations is required. Major Duty Areas: Purchasing and Procurement: Administers formal bids, RFPs, and quotes in compliance with Board policy and General Municipal Law. Prepares advertisements, bid packets, tabulations, analyses, and purchase orders. Vendor Compliance: Coordinates vendor insurance compliance with NYSIR. Fixed Asset Accounting: Maintains all district fixed assets in GAAP-compliant templates. Assigns asset tags, calculates asset cost, processes disposals, and maintains audit ready records. Related Areas of Support: Medicaid Administration and Reimbursement Students with Disabilities & State Aid Reimbursement Position reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, with support and supervision from the Assistant Business Administrator and the District Treasurer. All candidates must meet the minimum requirements set by Suffolk County Civil Service, including: either: (a) Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, and four (4) years of experience in purchasing, marketing or buying; or, (b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and eight (8) years of experience in purchasing, marketing or buying; or, (c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b) to sit for the next available exam for School Purchasing Agent title. All candidates must take the next available civil service exam, pass and be reachable upon the constitution of a new competitive candidates list for the title.
