Applicants must meet minimum Suffolk County Civil Service prerequisites as described at the civil service job link. This is a 10-month part-time position at the district administrative offices supporting the Business Department. Copiague is located in the southwest corner of Suffolk County approximately 30 miles east of New York City. During the last 40 years, Copiague has grown into a cosmopolitan community, rich in cultural diversity. Commuters find its location convenient; it is on the main southern branch of the Long Island Railroad and a short distance from major parkways and airports. Our community has beaches, canals and marina dockage for hundreds of craft and is also close to shopping, cultural, sport, entertainment and higher educational facilities. Community Profile: As its name suggests, Copiague was originally inhabited by Indians who called it “Coppiage,” or “Place of Shelter.” Founded by the English and Dutch settlers in the early 1600's, the area was, for 300 years, a quiet country farming town. In the 1900's Copiague grew in fame as a summer retreat from New York City. Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the wireless telegraph, spent many vacations here as the guest of a young Italian engineer. Marconi Boulevard, located near the railroad station, is reminiscent of this historic era. Copiague has a long history of pride in its diversity and strong support for its educational institutions and youth activities. Residents strongly believe that the development of their community is dependent upon the attitudes and growth of its youth. Copiague enjoys a stable, committed Board of Education, healthy parental involvement, and a record of consistent approval of the budget by community members.
