Our community has beaches, canals and marina dockage for hundreds of craft and is also close to shopping, cultural, sport, entertainment and higher educational facilities.Community Profile:As its name suggests, Copiague was originally inhabited by Indians who called it “Coppiage,” or “Place of Shelter.” Founded by the English and Dutch settlers in the early 1600's, the area was, for 300 years, a quiet country farming town. In the 1900's Copiague grew in fame as a summer retreat from New York City. Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the wireless telegraph, spent many vacations here as the guest of a young Italian engineer. Marconi Boulevard, located near the railroad station, is reminiscent of this historic era.Copiague has a long history of pride in its diversity and strong support for its educational institutions and youth activities.
