Announcement of Vacancy Superintendent of Schools Cooperstown Central School District Our Mission The Cooperstown Central School District is a collaborative partnership of all home, school, and community stakeholders founded on trust. The District will provide a caring environment in which important and meaningful learning opportunities motivate our students to aspire to excellence. Active curiosity, compassion, and positivity are critical elements of effective teaching and learning. Our unified mindset is one that promotes the ideals of ownership and continuous improvement. Our Community Nestled among the hills and valleys of northern Otsego County in upstate NY, Cooperstown Central School (CCS) is the second-largest district by enrollment in our BOCES region. The 100-square-mile district surrounds the Village of Cooperstown on Otsego Lake and covers rural, residential, semi-agricultural lands around the hamlets of Hartwick, Middlefield and Fly Creek. Nationally known to summertime visitors for its scenery, baseball, museums, and opera, the district is home to the Clark Sports Center, and the region’s largest employer: Bassett Medical Center. Parents, friends, and community volunteers support our district individually as well as through affiliated organizations such as the Cooperstown Foundation for Excellence in Education, Cooperstown Parent Teacher Association, Angel Network, Alumni Association, Friends of Music & Art, and Sports Booster Club. Candidate Profile Cooperstown Central School District seeks an exceptional leader with a student centered vision to lead our district as our Superintendent of Schools. Our next Superintendent is an experienced leader who excels as a communicator and systems-minded thinker in order to articulate a vision for our district with transparency, clarity, and timeliness. Navigating challenging conversations and fostering a cohesive approach with the Board, administrators, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders, our next Superintendent will lead with a clear, big picture vision that consistently asks, “Are we doing what is best for our students?” Cooperstown CSD - like other rural schools - is living through a time of tremendous change and opportunity. Our next Superintendent is a transformational leader who will thoughtfully, decisively, and enthusiastically guide our district including spearheading regionalization efforts with neighboring districts while leading in an uncompromising manner toward a goal of continuing to grow Cooperstown CSD into a model school district. Our next Superintendent will be deeply involved in the Cooperstown community. Our next Superintendent will ideally have experience at the Superintendent level with a strong fiscal background and a deep knowledge of teaching, learning, and policy in order to position Cooperstown CSD as a model school district that provides opportunities for students that are enriching and robust so that our graduates can move into the world as independent, thoughtful, and compassionate contributors.
