Please read through the full job description below, and apply today!School Counselor - Career and Technical EducationREPORTS TO: Director of CTEQUALIFICATIONS: Valid New York State certification as a School Counselor WORK YEAR: 10 Month Position plus up to 15 Summer DaysDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and implement a guidance and academic counseling program.Communicate with students, parents, and District staff regarding student progress; monitor students and make recommendations related to placements. Provide personal, crisis and social-emotional counseling services to students; conduct student conferences and refer students to appropriate agencies as needed; assist students with decision making, professional behaviors, and healthy relationships. Provide college and career guidance to students.Establish and maintain communication with various stakeholder groups, including - component district counselors, CTE staff, students, parents, and administration.Coordinate testing for all technical assessments.Coordinate and facilitate college and worksite tours. Prepare and submit reports as requested. Maintain student academic records, cumulative folders, records and reports related to students. Assist in the development of articulation agreements with postsecondary institutions and local partnerships. Work to implement industry recognized credentials, certificates, and appropriate post-secondary education, or employment pathways. Work with students to develop skills geared toward academic and behavioral success as it relates to career pathways.Serve as an active participant on advisory committees. Promote CTE programs to component districts and the community. Facilitate district tours and visits of CTE programs and the registration of students in programs. Collaborate with post-secondary institutions for dual enrollment courses.Maintain accurate records in the student management system. Collaborate with the RIC to maintain accurate records in regard to student data. Maintain accurate assessment data.Ensure students are enrolled in appropriate classes. Maintain records as they relate to the CDOS credential. Communicate this information with component districts as necessary. Serve as the point of contact and component district liaison for students with Section 504 Accommodation Plans. Coordinate with Special Education and Compass programs for enrollment of students. Coordinate with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator to ensure accurate recording of CTE and WBL hours. Complete all other assignments as delegated by supervisors.PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESEnsure summer work days are planned to support efficiency of student registration and meet the needs of component districts. Meet regularly with various stakeholders and colleagues in order to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of job responsibilities.Attend training in order to ensure relevant and up to date knowledge of job responsibilities.Participate in professional organizations, professional growth activities such as appropriate seminars, courses, workshops, and staff development activities.Cooperate with the Director of Career and Technical Education and other staff members.Adhere to all policies and procedures as delineated in the district’s Board Policies, Staff Handbook and administrative requests. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Be a professional role model for students and staffPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
