The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is now seeking applications for a NYS Certified Library Media Specialist to serve in a shared position between the Union Springs Central School District, and the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES. This unique position will allow the successful candidate to serve half-time as the Library Media Specialist in the Union Springs Middle and High School. The other half of the position will be at the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, working alongside the Coordinator of School Library Services, as a Systems Librarian. WORK YEAR: 10 Month PositionSALARY: Per Teacher ContractDUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: School Library Media Specialist (Union Springs MS/HS) ½ PositionProvide effective instruction for students and staff on essential skills such as: media literacy, database and internet research, source evaluation tools, and digital citizenshipDevelop a library program for all students and staff that is inclusive, flexible, collaborative and invitingCollaborate and co-teach with classroom educators on instruction of media literacy within the teacher’s curriculumMaintain the library for effective distribution/circulation of materials and coordination of servicesDevelop literature/non-fiction appreciation in students.Facilitate student and adult access to information-rich resources for researchEncourage students to explore the world around them through print and online resourcesSystems Librarian- ½ Position Assist district librarians in the routine use of, training, analyzing and tech support related to library automation software systems (Follett, Opals)Assist district libraries and tech departments to provide training, technical support and maintenance for online databasesAssist with training, supporting and maintaining access levels for eBooks Assist with the training and management of digital content (Swank, video streaming)Provide technical and design support for digital library systems to districts using Library.fyi and LibGuidesCreate, write, and update resource flyers and newslettersAttend professional developmentMaintains an up-to-date knowledge of developments regarding library systemsAssist SLS Coordinator in development and implementation of professional development All other duties as assigned by supervisor
