Position OverviewClarkstown Central School District is seeking a visionary, highly motivated educator to lead our prestigious 3-year Science Research Program. Our ideal candidate is a "scientist-educator" capable of guiding students through the rigors of independent, original research. The science research teacher will support students as they transition from literature reviews to professional lab placements, culminating in the publication of original data and entry into national-level competitions.Key ResponsibilitiesMentorship & Advising: Provide 1-on-1 guidance to students in selecting research topics, identifying professional mentors, and designing experimental protocols.Curriculum Management: Teach the scaffolded 3-year research sequence, including bibliographic research, statistical analysis, and scientific writing.Competition Leadership: Coordinate all aspects of student entry into the Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS), ISEF, JSHS, and local NYS fairs (e.g., LISEF, WESEF).Community Liaison: Actively recruit and maintain relationships with scientists at local universities and private labs to secure student placements.SUNY Certification: Maintain and facilitate the "University in the High School" (UHS) partnership for students to earn college credit.Required QualificationsNYS Certification: Valid NYS Secondary Science Certification (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Earth Science 7-12).Academic Background: Master’s degree in a scientific field or Science Education required. Ph.D. or extensive laboratory research experience is highly preferred.Technical Proficiency: Mastery of LaTeX for document preparation, statistical software (SPSS, R, or Python), and database navigation (PubMed, JSTOR).Communication: Exceptional writing skills and the ability to coach students in public speaking for symposium presentations.The Ideal CandidateHas a track record of guiding students to the finalist level of major national competitions.Demonstrates a "growth mindset" and stays current with emerging trends in biotechnology, AI, environmental science, and physics.Possesses the organizational skills to manage 40+ unique, high-stakes student projects simultaneously.
