The elementary school principal administers, supervises, and coordinates all instructional, administrative, and operational functions of a K–5 school. Serving as the building’s instructional leader, the principal implements and supervises district and building-level instructional programs; aligns curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices with district goals and New York State standards; and uses assessment data to support continuous school improvement and enhanced student achievement. The principal supervises and evaluates all personnel, supports staff development and professional growth, and ensures compliance with state and federal laws, Commissioner’s regulations, Board of Education policies, and negotiated agreements. The role includes maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment; coordinating student support services; engaging families and the community; and collaborating with district leadership to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.Responsibilities:1. Program Oversight and Compliance:Assure compliance with state and federal laws, Commissioner’s regulations, Board of Education policies, superintendent regulations, and negotiated agreementsSupervise all administrative routines including budgeting, scheduling, orientation, testing, and assigned duties2. Instructional Leadership:Implement, coordinate, and supervise the instructional programServe as instructional leader; evaluate learning processes and outcomesSupervise the use of instructional materialsAssist in district-level curriculum evaluation and developmentAlign building curriculum and assessments with district calendars and NYS standardsSupervise and lead the integration of technology into the instructional culture3. Personnel Supervision:Supervise and evaluate teaching and non-teaching personnelAssist in recruitment, selection, assignment, retention, and dismissal of staffOversee development of probationary teachers through observation and feedback4. OtherPerform other duties as requested by the Superintendent or Assistant SuperintendentsQualifications:Education: Master’s degree in Educational Administration, or related fieldCertification: Valid New York State certification in School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) or School District Administrator (SDA) is requiredExperience: Minimum of 3 years of administrative experienceSkills and Competencies:Strong knowledge of New York State and federal education laws and regulations.Ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff to achieve high standards.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Commitment to promoting equity, inclusivity, and high expectations for all students.Work Conditions:Full-time, 12-month positionOccasional evening or weekend hours may be required for meetings, events, or professional development sessions.
