The Middle School Assistant Principal assists the middle school principal with the coordination, supervision, administration, and instructional leadership of the school. This individual assumes responsibility for the administration of the school in the absence of the principal and supports the daily operations and academic leadership necessary to ensure student success.Responsibilities:Program Oversight and Compliance:Assure compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to education, Commissioner’s regulations, Board of Education policies, regulations of the superintendent, and requirements of the negotiated contracts with school personnel.Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Support:Assist in the development, supervision, and evaluation of the curriculum offered in the middle school.Help coordinate and evaluate the school’s Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Analyze testing and grading results for assigned departments and ensure accurate recordkeeping.Participate in the review of new textbooks and course offerings.Staff Supervision and Development:Assist in the supervision and evaluation of all personnel, both teaching and non-teaching.Assist in the development, supervision, facilitation, implementation, and evaluation of staff development activities, including Curriculum Days and Superintendent Conference Days.Aid in the recruitment, selection, assignment, retention, and dismissal of professional staff.Assist in the orientation of new teachers.Student Services and School Operations:Help organize and manage a comprehensive program of pupil activities.Assist in the administrative routines in the building including pupil personnel, budget preparation, administrative reports, master schedule, transportation schedules, and extra-curricular school funds as assigned by the building principal.Enforce general discipline and a safe, healthy school environment.Assist in administering local scholarships.Community Engagement and Professional Responsibilities:Help promote positive community relationships through participation in school and community activities which encourage dialogue regarding school programs and procedures.Foster personal growth through participation in seminars, conferences, professional organizations, and staff development activities.Act on campus in an appropriate and professional manner recognizing his or her status as a role model for students and that the purpose for his or her presence on campus is the education of said students.Participate as a member of the administrative team in assisting the principal and perform such other duties as may be requested by the building principal.Qualifications:Education: Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Leadership, or a related field.Certification: Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or equivalent administrative certification.Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience at the middle or secondary school level. The preferred candidate will have a strong understanding of STEM content areas and special education. Knowledge of the Science of Reading is also desirable.Skills and Competencies:Strong understanding of instructional leadership, curriculum development, and student support services.Ability to effectively supervise, evaluate, and support staff.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Skill in data-driven decision-making and school operations.Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and high-achieving school culture.Bilingual ability preferredWork Conditions:Full-time, 12-month position in accordance with the Clarkstown Administrators AssociationOccasional evening or weekend hours may be required for meetings, events, or professional development sessions.
