The Supervisor of Elementary Special Education is responsible for overseeing and supporting special education programs and services within elementary schools (grades K-5) in the district. This role involves ensuring compliance with state and federal special education regulations, facilitating professional development for special education staff, collaborating with general education personnel, and optimizing resources to support students with disabilities. The supervisor works closely with families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to promote inclusive education and improve academic and behavioral outcomes for students with special needs.Responsibilities:Program Oversight and Compliance:Oversee special education programs in elementary schools, ensuring compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and New York State special education regulations.Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related services in alignment with state mandates.Conduct regular audits of IEPs, student records, and service logs to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.Staff Supervision and Development:Supervise and evaluate special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff, providing regular feedback and guidance.Coordinate and deliver professional development workshops on best practices, instructional strategies, behavioral support, and legal compliance in special education.Support staff in creating inclusive classrooms that foster high expectations and positive behavior for all students.Collaboration and Communication:Collaborate with building administrators, general education teachers, and other staff to promote inclusive education and support student success.Serve as a liaison between the special education department and parents, addressing concerns and ensuring clear communication regarding student progress.Partner with external agencies, therapists, and support providers to coordinate services and resources for students with disabilities.Data Analysis and Program Improvement:Collect, analyze, and interpret student data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.Develop and implement strategies to improve academic achievement, attendance, and graduation rates among special education students.Prepare reports and documentation as required by district and state guidelines.Resource Management and Budgeting:Assist in developing and managing the special education budget for secondary programs, including staffing, materials, and service contracts.Ensure that resources are used effectively and equitably to support students’ educational needs.Qualifications:Education: Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Administration, or related field.Certification: Valid New York State certification in School Administration/Supervision (SAS) or School District Leader (SDL) is required.Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in special education, with prior experience as a teacher or administrator at the elementary level. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.Skills and Competencies:Strong knowledge of New York State and federal special education laws and regulations.Ability to lead, motivate, and develop special education staff to achieve high standards.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Proficiency in data analysis and using data to inform decision-making.Commitment to promoting equity, inclusivity, and high expectations for all students.Work Conditions:Full-time, 12-month position with duties both in school settings and at the district administrative offices.Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for meetings, events, or professional development sessions.
