The Coordinator of Health Services oversees the health and wellness programs for the district, ensuring compliance with state regulations, providing leadership to nursing staff, and serving as a resource for students, employees, and the community on health-related matters. This position supports safe, healthy environments for students and staff, manages medical needs, and addresses district-wide health initiatives. The Coordinator must collaborate effectively with the District’s Medical Director to ensure alignment and support for health services. Responsibilities:1. Nursing:Supervise nursing staff, manage schedules and coverage, evaluate performance, and provide support.Interview candidates for nursing roles and make hiring and termination decisions.Review legal exemption requests for immunizations and provide court testimony as needed.Cover primary nursing duties during summer months.2. Employees:Oversee Workers’ Compensation submissions, liaise with employees, providers, and insurance carriers, and testify in court when necessary.Serve as a resource and advocate for all staff on health-related issues.Review and process sick notes, maternity leave extensions, and sick bank requests.Facilitate compliance with the district's 913 policy.Educate and train staff on health issues, including anaphylaxis and diabetes.3. Students:Act as a resource for health-related issues for nursing staff and parents.Review and follow up on accident reports, interact with parents and insurance carriers, and conduct risk assessments.Attend CPSE, CSE, IST, and 504 meetings regarding student health needs.Develop Health Care Plans for students with specific medical needs.Communicate directly with parents as required.4. Transportation:Review medical requests for transportation or bus stop changes.Train bus drivers to support students with medical needs, including anaphylaxis.Attend bus accident sites to assess student and driver health.5. Daycare:Serve as a resource for medical concerns from staff and families.Review immunization and health records for daycare participants.Conduct annual parent information sessions and provide training for staff on health-related topics.6. Wellness:Chair the district Wellness Committee.Collaborate with Board members, principals, and county officials on wellness initiatives.Support building-level wellness programs and broader county initiatives.7. Community:Represent the district on the Countywide School Health Advisory Team and related committees.Organize and host continuing education sessions for school nurses in the county.Participate in public presentations on topics such as concussion awareness.8. District:Ensure district compliance with New York State laws and health regulations.Oversee student compliance with health requirements.Maintain a safe and healthy environment for all students and staff.Provide immediate support to administration on health-related issues.Stay current with health trends and updates to state regulations. Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field.Certification: Valid NYS RN license; additional certifications preferred.Experience: Extensive experience in school health services, with supervisory and administrative responsibilities. Skills and Competencies:Leadership and team management.Expertise in health laws, regulations, and compliance.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Crisis management and decision-making abilities.Ability to develop and implement training programs. Work Conditions:Full-time, 12-month position.Occasional evening or weekend hours required for meetings, events, or professional development.
