Under the direction of the Principal, the Social Emotional Learning Coach guides the efforts of the Harmony Hill school team in the planning, implementation and sustaining of the Social Emotional Learning, (SEL), framework. The SEL interventionist works to ensure that the team implements social and emotional experiences and competencies with fidelity so that students will receive consistent instruction in SEL, set and achieve positive goals, experience improved school connectedness, and become better learners.This role: Collaborates with the Harmony Hill team in designing and implementing effective strategies for best practice social emotional learning and behavioral practices. Plans professional development (PD) for all staff in group and individualized settings, as needed, at the discretion of the Principal in topics including: promoting prosocial SEL skills; positive behavior support strategies in the classroom; SEL domains and curriculum, (Second Step, PBIS); Restorative Practices; SEL assessment and tools to monitor student growth (Ross Greene Collaborative, Proactive Solutions). Provides individualized PD plan based upon teacher and classroom needs, this will include such modalities (activities) as modeling the intervention strategy and supporting subsequent application Provides direct support to teachers (PD, modeling, classroom and/or student observations) as needed. Works with students, staff, and principal in proactive de-escalation strategies. Collaborates with Harmony Hill school Principal’s cabinet in establishing large and small group student lessons, as needed, for identified needs. Facilitates Harmony Hill short-term solution-focused student groups centered on such topics as school adjustment, among others Assists teachers in establishing an appropriate data collection method for purposes of analyzing the data for developing FBA’s and subsequent BIPS and building in monitoring checkpoints As a member of the Crisis Team, responds to crisis and plays a lead role in the post-incident debriefing process. Works with the Principal’s Cabinet to refine the crisis response protocolsAs with other positions providing building-level support, the Social Emotional Learning Coach shall be expected to perform other duties as may be from time-to-time assigned by the Principal. Demonstrated ability and/or knowledge in: Multi-tiered Systems of Support Restorative practices Trauma informed practices Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Engaging students and families and staff The CASEL “5” Core SEL Competencies (Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making) Supporting the Cohoes City School District’s commitment to eliminating race, class, disability, and gender as predictors of academic performance, co-curricular participation and discipline Must possess an exceptional level of professionalism, tact, and courtesy Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills NYS CERTIFICATION REQUIRED IN:School Social Worker, School Psychologist, OR School CounselorApplicants must have appropriate NYS certification for the position.Please apply through OLAS with a letter of interest, your resume, proof of certification and any supporting materials including at least 3 professional letters of reference.
