Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District TITLE: Communications Specialist REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in communications, journalism, media studies, or related field; or Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, media studies, or related field and 2 years of paid experience in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field; or Associate’s degree communications, journalism, media studies, or related field and 4 years of paid experience in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Communications Specialist will develop and implement effective communications strategies to provide internal and external constituents with timely, accurate and engaging content designed to promote a positive image for the district. This is a full time, 12-month, management/confidential position. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Plan, develop, and produce a wide range of compelling communications content for both internal and external audiences; write news releases, articles, and news items; edit the copy of other contributors; create, publish, and regularly update district and school profiles; prepare newsletters, graphics, flyers, brochures, and other print graphics for internal and external circulation or publication. • Maintain district website and social media site(s) and provide dynamic presence on those sites and related organization sites. • Work with district administrators and staff to assess communications needs, opportunities, and strategies; develop annual communications master plan; monitor communications plan implementation; modify plan as needed; manage district branding initiatives, including brand guidelines. • Coordinate the creation, maintenance, and dissemination of district’s published (paper) and online calendars. • Coordinate crisis communications plan(s); coordinate public information and media relations during times of crisis/emergency; coordinate internal and external communication regarding delayed openings, early dismissals, and snow/emergency closings. • Photograph district programs and events for print and online publications; provide basic videography as requested. • Participate on committees as assigned by the Superintendent; support the communications needs of other district and building committees and teams; serve on the district’s management team. • Plan and deliver training for administrators, managers, and program leaders on topics related to communications, public relations, and community relations; advise Superintendent and board of education on policy related to communications, public relations, and related issues.• Triage and expedite district response to student, staff, parent, and community concerns. • Act as a district liaison with BOCES, other districts, governmental agencies, not for profit agencies, and community/business partners. • Coordinate all print and graphics projects with BOCES and other third-party vendors. • Develop, implement, and analyze survey and polling instruments to gauge program effectiveness or identify district priorities. • Assist administrators and/or business office with grant applications, program evaluations, or program reporting documents. • Support the communications needs of district partners (Education Foundation, Booster Club, Parent-Teacher organizations, etc…). • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
