Position: Provisional Personal Care AssistantLocation: Catskill Central School DistrictDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves working in a school setting with individuals who may have mobility issues or be ability impaired. The incumbent would provide emotional and physical support enabling the student to function and learn at school, including assisting with activities of daily living and ensuring the student’s safety and wellbeing during the school day. This position requires dependability and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the student, including appropriately addressing challenging situations or behaviors. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Assists student with personal hygiene, toileting, handwashing, dressing, and eating;Assists student with mobility in the classroom, hallways, in special classes including Physical Education Class, and getting on and off the school bus;Adapts activities to improve the student’s participation in learning while meeting the student’s needs/capabilities;Ensures student’s safety while sitting in chairs and exiting chairs;Assists student in selecting and using writing or drawing implements, organizing a desk and recognizing materials needed for a specific task;Helps student anticipate activities in a timeline and prepare a schedule for the day;Develops strategies to allow the student to function during the school day in a variety of different setting and expectations;Creatively observes and records student’s successful completion of tasks, as well as moods and reaction to activities, people and situations;Acts as an ally for the student and documents any changes to emotional and/or physical well-being;Documents patterns of behaviors on specific days of the week or different times of the day;Involves the student in decision making at their level whenever possible;Must be able to physically manage students ranging in weight from 30-100 pounds.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the characteristic, needs and interests of the student population serviced; Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Ability to understand and implement verbal and written directions, Ability to perform tasks associated with the position; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Ability to remain calm and composed when addressing challenging situations or behaviors; Tactful, dependable, adaptable, and courteous; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience as Personal Care Assistant.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Completion of a Personal Care Assistant training program or certification course.GREENE COUNTY – COMPETITIVECSC ACT: 9/24/2025
