ANNOUNCING THE FOLLOWING VACANCY FOR 2024 – 2025 Position: Anticipated Provisional Senior Clerk TypistLocation: Catskill Central School DistrictSalary: Per CSEA ContractEffective As Soon as PossibleDeadline: October 30, 2024 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be legal residents of Greene, Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Schoharie or Ulster Counties for atleast one (1) month immediately preceding the date of the examination.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of clericalexperience; including typing or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.*Clerical experience is defined as activities involving the performance of routine office tasks, such as keeping of records and accounts,correspondence, recording/entering and retrieving data and/or information or i.e. filing, answering phones, typing correspondence, and usingmodern computer software. This experience should be the primary function of the job and not incidental.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Typing at a rate of thirty-five (35) words per minute will be required.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS: In accordance with the Safe School Against Violence in Education(SAVE) Legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws 2000; and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education; candidates for appointment inschool districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint andcriminal history background.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)Collects and compiles statistics and other related information; Assigns work, reviews and records work done; Instructs new employees inspecialized clerical work of a unit; Collects fees and accounts for monies received; Conducts routine correspondence on matters where policiesand procedures are well defined; Checks reports and records for clerical accuracy, completeness and proper extension; Processes, sorts,indexes, records and files a variety of records and reports; Uses a typewriter when necessary to perform some of the illustrated duties;Occasionally may operate office machines which might include, but not limited to computers, printers, calculators, and other office machines.WHEN ASSIGNED TO PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING SERVICE: Has responsibility for ordering and distribution of biological and other laboratoryand epidemiological supplies; Transcribes professional dictation from nurses and physical therapist, which requires some familiarity with medicaland scientific terminology; Responsible for distribution of publicity releases relative to clinic activities.WHEN ASSIGNED TO SHERIFF’S OFFICE: Prepares summons and executions to be served by road deputies; Records payments forexecutions and bank levies, plus recording poundage, interest and filing fees.SCOPES/SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and/or abilities in the following areas.1. Name and number checking: These questions test for the ability to distinguish between sets of words, letters, and/or numbers that are almostexactly alike. Material is usually presented in two or three columns, and you will have to determine how the entry in the first column compareswith the entry in the second column and possibly the third. You will be instructed to mark your answers according to a designated code providedin the directions.2. Operations with Letters and Numbers: These questions test for the skills and abilities in operations involving alphabetizing, comparing,checking and counting. The questions require you to follow the specific directions given for each question which may involve alphabetizing,comparing, checking and counting given groups of letters and/or numbers.3. Understanding and Interpreting Written Material: These questions test for the ability to understand and interpret written material. You will bepresented with brief reading passages and will be asked questions about the passages. You should base your answers to the questions only onwhat is presented in the passage and not on what you may happen to know about the topic.
