Position: Internal Claims AuditorStipend: $5,000.00Effective: As Soon As PossibleDeadline: July 17, 2023General Statement of Duties: The successful candidate will conduct the internal claims audit process for the Catskill Central School District. This position reports to the Board of Education and will provide monthly reports to the Board, as well as, be required to attend Audit/Finance Committee meetings, as necessary. Typical Work Activities:The Internal Claims Auditor shall perform the following review of claims prepared for payment to determine that the proposed payment is proper and just: Ensure that the proposed payment is for a valid and legal purpose;Verifies purchasing agent’s signature has authorized the release of the purchase orderEnsure sufficient appropriations are available to pay the claim;Ensure the claim is in accordance with the district purchasing policyand other Board policies, as applicable;Ensure the item(s) for which payment is claimed are documented as having beenreceived or, in the case of services, that they are documented as rendered,provided, however, that such requirement shall not preclude payment in advanceof registration fees for conferences, training or authorized membership fees; andVerifies the purchase order or schedule of claims contains the purchasing agent’s signature as the “officer giving rise to the claim”Verifies that the charges are not duplicates of item(s) already paidVerifies the proposed payment is for a valid and legal purposeVerifies the unit price billed (invoiced) does not exceed the authorizationVerifies the extensions are correct, no unauthorized taxes are paid, discounts are taken, and transportation charges, where applicable, are accurateVerifies that claims for reimbursement of expenses indicate the reason for the expense, includes supporting documentation, and the authorization for incurring itVerifies mileage claims indicates the date, points of travel, number of miles, and mileage ratePrepares reports of discrepancy (or none noted) to accompany warrant to the BoardInstructs Treasurer to release payment in a timely fashion once audit of claims is completed Work year is 12 months, part-time, generally weekly or bi-weekly based on district payment cycle.
