2026-2027 School Year Anticipated Vacancies Middle School Assistant Principal - Probationary Location: George Fischer Middle School Salary: Commensurate with experience, qualifications and CAA contract Position Overview George Fischer Middle School, part of the Carmel Central School District, is seeking a student-centered, collaborative Assistant Principal to join the administrative team. The successful candidate will help lead a vibrant middle school community, support high-quality instruction, and ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where all students can thrive. Required Qualifications Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL), School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS), or School District Administrator (SDA) certification. Master’s degree Successful teaching and/or leadership experience at the middle or secondary level. Demonstrated knowledge of middle-level education, adolescent development, and current best practices in instruction, assessment, and school climate. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Primary Responsibilities Instructional Leadership and Staff Support Assist with leading the instructional program, including supporting curriculum implementation, data-informed decision-making, and school improvement efforts. Conduct staff observations and evaluations in accordance with district and state procedures, providing meaningful feedback to promote professional growth. Facilitate professional learning, department/grade-level meetings, and staff development activities. School Operations and Master Scheduling Lead and manage the development and implementation of the master schedule, ensuring alignment with student needs, staffing, and program requirements. Oversee daily operations, including supervision of arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, and common areas to maintain a safe and orderly environment. Assist with the coordination of building use, testing schedules, and other operational logistics. Student Management and Support Oversee student discipline using progressive, restorative, and educational approaches that support behavior growth and maintain a positive school climate. Collaborate with counselors, psychologists, social workers, and other support staff to address student needs, including attendance and behavioral interventions. Participate in and/or chair relevant committees and meetings (e.g., behavior support teams, safety teams). Collaboration and Communication Work closely with the Principal and other district administrators to implement building and district initiatives and ensure alignment with Board policies and regulations. Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians through meetings, phone calls, emails, and school events, addressing concerns, and sharing information proactively. Serve as a liaison between the school and community partners, supporting programs that enhance student learning and well-being. Other Duties Assist with planning and supervising school events, extracurricular activities, and emergency drills. Participate in hiring processes, mentoring new staff, and fostering a positive staff culture. Investigate potential violations of the Code of Conduct and Board of Education policies Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration.
