Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services - Carmel Central School District, Carmel NY Location: District Office About the Position The Carmel Central School District is seeking a dynamic and compassionate educational leader to serve as Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services (PPS). This position is a key member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all district programs and services that support the academic, social-emotional, and physical well-being of students. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team committed to ensuring every student has equitable access to educational opportunities and the supports needed to thrive. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction for all special education, psychological, counseling, health, and related services across the district. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations governing student support services, including IDEA and Section 504. Supervise and evaluate directors, administrators, coordinators, and PPS staff; to foster professional growth and continuous improvement. Collaborate with district and building leaders to develop inclusive practices and interventions that meet diverse student needs. Oversee policy development and implementation related to student services, health and safety, and district wellness initiatives. Manage the PPS budget and allocate resources effectively to meet program goals. Serve as liaison between the district and families, community agencies, and outside service providers. Participate actively in district leadership planning, strategic initiatives, and crisis response efforts. Oversee, monitor, and evaluate district programs that support student growth and well-being, including Social-Emotional Learning, Universal Pre-Kindergarten, academic intervention practices, and other supportive initiatives designed to promote equitable outcomes and continuous improvement. Take directions from the Superintendent of Schools and perform duties as deemed necessary to support the effective operation of the district. Qualifications New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification required. Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience in pupil personnel or special education leadership. Extensive knowledge of special education law, policy, and best practices. Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered decision-making. Compensation Salary Range: $180,000 – $195,000 (commensurate with experience) Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement contributions, and professional development opportunities.
