We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated K-12 Director of Social Studies to join our team and contribute to our continued success.Position Summary:The K-12 Director of Social Studies is a visionary leader responsible for providing leadership, direction, and support for the district's Social Studies program across all grade levels (K-12). The Director will work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and the community to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, engaging, and culturally responsive Social Studies curriculum that aligns with New York State Learning Standards and prepares students for success in college, career, and civic life.Responsibilities:Curriculum Development and Implementation:Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive K-12 Social Studies curriculum that aligns with New York State Learning Standards and best practices.Ensure K-12 curriculum is culturally responsive, inclusive, and relevant to the diverse needs of all students.Develop and oversee the implementation of instructional materials, resources, and assessments.Promote the integration of technology into Social Studies instruction.Instructional Leadership and Support:Provide instructional leadership and support to Social Studies teachers across all grade levels.Develop and deliver professional development opportunities to enhance teachers' content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and ability to implement effective instructional strategies.Observe classrooms and provide feedback to teachers to improve instruction.Stay current on research and best practices in Social Studies education Assessment and Data Analysis:Develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive assessment system to monitor student learning and program effectiveness.Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and identify areas for improvement.Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of the Social Studies program and make recommendations for adjustments.Supervision and Evaluation:Supervise and evaluate Social Studies teachers, providing feedback and support for professional growth.Assist in the recruitment, selection, scheduling and orientation of new Social Studies staff members.Collaboration and Communication:Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the K-12 Social Studies curriculum.Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community Build strong relationships with community organizations and resources to enhance the Social Studies curriculum with opportunities for civic action.Budget and Resource Management:Develop and manage the Social Studies department budget.Allocate resources effectively to support the implementation of the Social Studies program.Qualifications:New York State Certification as in school district administration (SDA, SDL).Master's degree in Social Studies, Education, or a related field.Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Social Studies at the secondary level.Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.Strong knowledge of Social Studies content, pedagogy, and assessment.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals.Commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of the Bay Shore School District.Preferred Qualifications:Experience as a Director or Supervisor of Social Studies.Experience with curriculum development and implementation at the K-12 level.Experience with data-driven decision making and program evaluation.Application Process:Application Process: Interested candidates are invited to submit a letter of interest, resume, copies of certifications, and three professional references to Kristina M.
