Job Summary:The Coordinator of Attendance and Census provides leadership and oversight for the district’s Attendance and Census Department, ensuring equitable access to education, accurate student enrollment and attendance practices, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and district regulations. This position plays a vital role in advancing the District’s Graduation Plus+ vision by strengthening systems that promote regular student attendance, early identification of barriers, family engagement, and coordinated interventions, ensuring every student is supported from entry through graduation and beyond. Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Works closely with the Director of Programs and Policies Minimum Requirements:Ö Must hold appropriate NYS Administrative CertificationÖ Minimum of five (5) years of successful public school teaching experience Additional requirements include, but are not limited to: The Coordinator of Attendance and Census shall:Oversee the daily operations of the Attendance and Census Department, ensuring effective systems, accurate reporting, and compliance with district policies and state and federal regulations.Supervise, evaluate, assign, and support professional and clerical staff, fostering growth through meaningful evaluation, coaching, and professional development.Coordinate and manage districtwide student registration, including Universal Pre-K and Kindergarten registration, ensuring compliance with residency requirements and Board of Education policies.Ensure all attendance policies, procedures, and records are consistently implemented and maintained across schools.Serve as the district liaison for homeless students, ensuring full compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and collaborating with Suffolk County, school administrators, and community agencies.Collaborate closely with building principals and school leadership teams to develop, implement, and monitor attendance initiatives aimed at improving daily attendance, reducing chronic absenteeism, and increasing student engagement.Work collaboratively with the Family and Community Engagement Center to strengthen outreach, communication, and coordinated supports for families experiencing attendance challenges.Assist in the systematic collection, analysis, and use of attendance, enrollment, and census data at both the building and district levels to inform decision-making, targeted interventions, and continuous improvement.Ensure the accurate monitoring and validation of cohort data, including enrollment, withdrawal, and graduation cohort tracking, in collaboration with building and district administrators.Oversee and ensure the proper and consistent use of student exit codes, in accordance with NYSED regulations and district procedures, to maintain data integrity and accountability.Provide guidance and training to building-level administrators and staff on attendance practices, cohort accountability, and exit coding procedures.Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with building-level attendance personnel, administrators, and district leadership to ensure alignment and timely problem-solving.Support the District’s Graduation Plus+ initiative by addressing attendance barriers, strengthening early intervention systems, and promoting equitable access to instruction.Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
