Position: Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher – Construction Craft Laborer Curriculum: LIUNA Date: November 19, 2025 Location: Brentwood Evening High SchoolHours: Monday – Friday, 2:30PM-9:30PMStart Date: Program Overview:Brentwood Union Free School District, in partnership with LIUNA and Local 66, is launching a pre-apprenticeship program at Brentwood Evening High School. This program uses LIUNA’s nationally recognized LEARN curriculum to prepare students for direct entry into U.S. Department of Labor-approved apprenticeships and careers in construction, environmental, energy, safety, and related fields. Responsibilities:The CTE Teacher will:Deliver the LEARN curriculum through engaging, project-based instruction.Provide students with hands-on training in core construction craft laborer competencies.Guide students in developing portfolios and completing a capstone project.Integrate academic standards (literacy, math, science) with technical skill development.Assess student learning using rubrics, performance checklists, and online assessment tools.Collaborate with industry and district partners to ensure alignment with apprenticeship standards and employer needs.Maintain accurate student records, portfolios, and progress reports. Required Qualifications: New York State Certification in Career & Technical Education (CTE) or eligibility for transitional certification.Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable industry experience in construction or related trades.Strong communication and organizational skills.Commitment to evening instructional schedule. Preferred Skills & Experience:Ideal candidates will demonstrate:Proficiency in construction safety protocols (OSHA, hazard awareness).Experience with trade-related exploratory projects (e.g., site prep, tool use, environmental projects).Ability to support students in portfolio development and capstone project completion.Knowledge of assessment practices including rubrics, performance checklists, and formative feedback.Familiarity with career pathways, apprenticeship systems, and post-secondary options in construction and related industries.Capacity to motivate and mentor students through project-based and applied learning experiences.
