Description of position: Supervises and makes skilled repairs and adjustments to a variety of automotive equipment and related machinery; diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions (e.g. using computer diagnostic equipment) for the purpose of determining needed repairs and/or replacement, maintains maintenance and repair computer and paper records on vehicles as required and does related work as required. Responds to emergency situations during and outside regular work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns, including emergency breakdowns and service. These duties involve primary responsibility for supervising and performing skilled automotive repair and maintenance tasks requiring a thorough knowledge of the trade. The position also involves responsibility for some supervisory tasks over the actual operation of the school buses. The work is performed under general supervision allowing wide leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in performing the technical aspects of the work. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate automotive mechanics and a number of bus drivers. In the absence of the Transportation Supervisor, calls and assigns substitute drivers, assigns drivers to special field trips and maintains time records for payroll purposes. Minimum requirements: Must have a high school diploma or possession of an equivalency diploma and four (4) years experience as a skilled automotive repairman; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
