Ballston Spa Central School District has a vacancy for an Assistant Coordinator for Purchasing. This position will be filled provisionally pending the results of a Civil Service Exam that will be scheduled at a later dateMinimum Qualifications: Graduation form a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field and one year of experience in large scale purchasing of a variety of commodities; Or Graduation form a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Purchasing and Materials Management, or related degree, and three years of experience in large scale purchasing of a variety of commodities; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five years of experience as described in (A) above; OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), or (C).Salary: $65,000/yr.Please upload: Letter of Interest, updated resume, proof of High School graduation or GED completion, and two (2) letters of reference.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves the responsibility for assisting in and coordinating the purchasing program of the County School District, or other Civil Division. The incumbent in this position must exercise careful judgment since erroneous decisions may result in the loss of large sums of money. The work is performed under the general supervision of assigned higher-level business personnel with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the position. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate clerical personnel as required. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (*Illustrative Only)Interviews sales representatives and vendors; Coordinates demonstrations of equipment and supplies; Assists in preparing specifications for public bidding; Advertises for bids and coordinates bid openings for all departments; Confers with department heads and their representatives on the needs of their agencies; Coordinates contractor and vendor dealings with the purchasing office; Prepares purchases orders, maintains records, and prepares related reports; Maintains price lists and catalog files on various supplies and equipment; Reviews requisitions for operating departments; Oversees coding of expenditures and related clerical work attached to purchasing process; Makes recommendations to higher level personnel regarding changes or improvements in the organizations purchasing procedures; Studies current price trends, market research as to product availability and pricing; May conduct item cost control and market research as to product availability and pricing; Prepares records and reports as needed.*Typical Work Activities are intended only as illustrations of possible types of work that might be appropriately assigned to an incumbent of this title.
