Experience as Director of Special Education or Assistant Director of Special Education preferred.Salary: Commensurate with ExperiencePlease Upload: Letter of Interest, Updated Resume, certifications, transcripts, and two (2) Letters of Reference.Director of Special EducationThe Special Education Director ensures that the district follows all state and federal regulations relative to the identification, placement, and program development of students ages 3-21 years. This employee is a direct report to The Superintendent of Schools. This is a 12 month position, salary commensurate with experience. Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide system-wide leadership and vision for assuring the development of effective and appropriate special education programs including oversight of proposals, new programs, budgets and grants for the purpose of meeting the District’s Strategic Plan and goals. Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program. Incorporates policies and procedures in accordance with laws and regulations. Ensures that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each student/family so that each child has the opportunity to achieve at a high level and be prepared for post-secondary success. Manages fiscal resources from District funds and special education grants, prepares budgets and directs spending, and monitors maintenance of effort, for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing required services. Develops system procedures for identification, evaluation and placement of students with special education needs. Oversight of CSE process including Chairperson responsibilities and Chairperson training. Oversight of the development and implementation of all annual scheduling (initial meetings, annual review, etc.) Represent the school system in dealing with outside agencies and organizations concerned with special education including provider and system representation in matters relating to due process procedural safeguards. Directly responsible for working in partnership with school counsel on such matters and keeping the Superintendent informed and providing him/her with recommendations and next steps in all legal matters. Facilitates communication and mediation with parents and advocates regarding the delivery of special education services. Develops data reports requested by both State and. Federal Agencies and assists others in the preparation and review of reports generated for State funding of Special Education programs. Coordinates staff professional development sessions for general and special education personnel related to safely and effectively delivering programs. Coordinates the development of information required by the transportation department in arranging specialized transportation. Approves special education requests for supplies, materials, and equipment. Coordinates instructional program for special education services by collaborating effectively with district staff, families, and special education teachers. With principals, assume leadership for recruiting, hiring and evaluating special education teachers and direct supervision of Related Services Providers. Supervision and evaluation of Assistant Directors and District-wide CSE Chairpeople.
