Ballston Spa High School has a vacancy for a building principal. The principal provides educational leadership for the school and is responsible for the administration of all activities and functions within the school. He/She is responsible to the Superintendent of Schools and works cooperatively with all other administrators to ensure effective operation of the school, achievement of District and building goals, and implementation of Board of Education policies and directives.Minimum Qualification: NYS certification: SBL or SDLSalary: per BSAC contractPlease Upload: Letter of Interest, Updated Resume, proof of Certification, transcripts, and two (2) Letters of Reference.Key Functions:A. Curriculum and Instruction: Articulates a vision for an effective school and translates the vision into goals for teachers, administrators, and support staff. 1. Assesses the educational program and recommends curricular and instructional revision;2. Supports and participates in staff development;3. Delegates responsibility and shares decision making with administrators, teachers, parents, and students;4. Monitors student progress as a measure of school and staff effectiveness;5. Documents and evaluates instructional performance of teachers;6. Directs and supports the use of technology in the delivery of instruction;7. Develops master schedule for educational program.B. Personnel: Participates in the selection, development, supervision, and evaluation of school staff.1. Recommends the selection of new staff members in cooperation with the Director of Instruction and other administrators and staff involved in the decision making process;2. Provides building orientation programs for new staff;3. Evaluates and works with staff members in targeted professional development areas;4. Monitors and evaluates staff using established District procedures;5. Recommends teachers for tenure appointments;6. Recommends creation of new positions;7. Maintains a working knowledge of all negotiated agreements and administers contracts within his/her jurisdiction.C. Students: Supervises and directs programs and staff relative to student progress, discipline, extracurricular activities, etc.1. Establishes a working relationship with students and student groups;2. Ensures that students have equal access to educational programs;3. Ensures that the school’s educational program is conducive to learning;4. Ensures that the student discipline code is administered in an atmosphere of fairness, reasonable expectations, and equity;5. Plans and promotes student activities to meet student interests and to support the District’s educational objectives.D. School and Community Public Relations: Facilitates communication with staff members, students, parents, school organizations, and the Ballston Spa community.1. Establishes effective working relationships with parents;2. Plans and facilitates staff meetings;3. Works cooperatively with parent groups associated with the school;4. Assigns staff to supervise extracurricular activities;5. Evaluates and monitors extracurricular activities for effectiveness in meeting student needs;6. Attends Board of Education meetings as needed;7. Provides for appropriate methods/vehicles for communication with staff, students, parents, and the community regarding school programs and activities;8. Develops parents, community members, and business representatives as resources for school program.E. Pupil Services: Supervises and evaluates program and staff involved in the delivery of specialized educational programs.1. Coordinates and participates in activities of building resource teams;2. Coordinates the school and career counseling services;3. Facilitates pupil adjustment by promoting emotional, physical, and social well-being;4. Coordinates the student management system and maintains all pupil records. Evaluates and reports student progress and achievement to parents;5. Schedules and conducts testing programs;6. Suspends students for a maximum of five days and recommends Superintendent’s hearings, as necessary;7. Coordinates medical and safety programs;8. Supervises and evaluates nurse and other staff responsible for delivery of specialized student services.F. Fiscal Planning: Prepares the school budget and sets building policy according to state regulation and local board policy.1. Participates in District budget planning;2. Monitors the expenditures of appropriated monies for school programs and activities;3. Approves all requisitions for equipment, supplies, instructional materials, and services;4. Monitors student extracurricular accounts to ensure fiscal responsibility by student groups.G. Facilities Management: Works cooperatively with the Directors of Facilities and Operations, Transportation, and Food Services to maintain safe, productive, and efficient programs.1. Participates in planning of building renovations and repairs;2. Collaboratively works with directors in monitoring personnel;3. Maintains a yearly calendar of activities for school facility;4. Works with Director of Transportation and bus drivers to provide safe transportation for students.H. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
