VACANCY NOTICE - Anticipated The Bedford Central School District has the following vacancy commencing with the 2026/2027 School Year: Coordinator of Elementary Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services Job Description: A Special Education Coordinator manages student IEPs (Individualized Education Programs), ensuring compliance with federal/state laws (like IDEA), facilitating meetings (CSE/CPSE), supporting teachers with strategies, handling data/records (SESIS), and bridging communication between families, staff, and providers for students with disabilities, focusing on program implementation, compliance, and student success through observation, training, and data analysis. This position is part of the Bedford’s Teachers’ Association. Job Responsibilities: Coordinates special education services for students with disabilities included in general education programs at the elementary level. Serves as the Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chairperson for program reviews, re-evaluations, annual reviews, and summer referrals. Ensures the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that meet student needs; reviews, proofs, and finalizes IEPs annually. Facilitates effective communication between parents, teachers, administrators, and external agencies to ensure student needs are appropriately supported. Supervise all special education programs within assigned schools Coaches Special Education Teachers and related service providers as part of respective building teams. Oversees the educational experience of students with special needs, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and district policies. Collaborates with the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to develop and implement behavior intervention plans. Designs and applies strategies to address students’ behavioral and emotional challenges. Provides guidance and support to staff during crisis situations involving students with special needs. Organizes professional development opportunities and training related to special education practices and policies for special education teachers, related service providers, support staff, and general education teachers. Trains support staff, including 1:1 aides and teaching assistants, to ensure effective service delivery. Partners with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Coordinator and general education staff to model and promote differentiation and pre-referral strategies within Tiers 1–3, fostering inclusive practices for all students. Facilitates building team meetings weekly/monthly as appropriate to the program Certification/License: NYSED Certification in Special Education/Students with Disabilities, School Psychologist, Speech and Hearing/Language, or similar related certification areas.
