Music Therapist – Support Children | Bachelor’s req’d Brookville, NY Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 3:30pm (32.5 hours) 12-Month School Calendar Salary Range: $69,643 - $83,571/yr Brookville Center for Children's Services provides comprehensive services for children 3-21 years of age with intellectual and other disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism. Our mission is to educate and support children of all abilities. We seek a Music Therapist to evaluate and provide music therapy to assigned classrooms. The Music Therapist will conduct music sessions that are appropriate to the developmental and social-emotional level of the assigned students. In addition, you will: Select and adapt music consistent with students’ age, culture, and preferences, as well as musical instruments and equipment consistent with the strengths and needs of the student. Encourage students to take part in the session and support them by responding musically. Encourage students to use musical instruments, such as percussion and voice, to express themselves. Help students explore the world of sound and create a musical language of their own. Improvise with music as a reaction to what the student is communicating. Design, construct, alter, and provide students with therapy to promote maximum independence. Lead and conduct school chorus (Brookville site only). Complete lesson plans and goals for classrooms monthly. Report progress for each assigned classroom quarterly. Must be a certified Music Therapist or Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with a minimum of one (1) year related experience working with the developmentally disabled population. Working knowledge of music curriculum/activities appropriate in a school setting. Must have a working knowledge of assessment and treatment activities appropriate for the developmental and social level of the assigned students. Physical Demands: Mobility: Ability to move about the school campus and community settings, including classrooms, offices, and vocational sites., including standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Physical: May occasionally be required to lift and carry instructional materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs), ability to assist students with mobility needs if required. Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers for writing, typing, and handling educational devices, instructional materials, assistive technology and computers. Visual and auditory ability: Must possess sufficient vision and hearing to monitor student activities, observe student performance and respond to needs including safety in a timely manner.
