Speech PathologistNew Hyde ParkMon-Fri 8:00-3:30Perform speech-language evaluations and conduct therapy sessions which are appropriate to the developmental level of the assigned student. Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships with children, their families and staff. Fulfill record keeping and statistical requirements accurately and in a timely manner. May be required to attend evening meetings.Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: STANDARD 1: Professional Dutiesa. Evaluate students’ needs through a variety of formal and informal measures and provides speech, language, and hearing services for children as indicated on their IEP in settings mandated by regulations.b. Develop and implement appropriate strategies for intervention as per child’s IEP.c. Complete and maintain all required paperwork in an appropriate and timely manner.d. Organize and complete reports and evaluations in an accurate, concise and timely manner.e. Participate in conferences, including parent and teacher meetings as assigned.f. Maintain appropriate professional standards in interactions with families.g. Demonstrate the abilities to be an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.h. Maintain a healthy, safe and attractive environment.i. Supervise Clinical Fellows (CF’s) and interns as requested.j. Maintain contact with university supervisors regarding the student intern’s progress.k. Maintain ASHA membership and certification (CCC’s) and NYS licensure through completion of continuing education credits and payment of annual dues as required for this position and supervision of CF’s and student interns.l. Attend CPSE meetings at locations through Long Island and NYC as required.m. Complete CPSE evaluations within two days of diagnostic testing.n. Conduct speech-language screenings as requested.o. Conduct training sessions for teachers, staff and/or parents in the areas of speech-language intervention.p. Determine the need and arrange AAC evaluations for students as deemed appropriate.q. Attend all staff conferences and meetings.r. Maintain ongoing contact with parents regarding a student’s progress and intervention strategies.s. Consult with interdisciplinary team members regarding appropriate behavioral management options for each student in order to enhance learning within the therapeutic setting.t. Impart information regarding child’s function and progress.u. Inform classroom staff and team members of each child’s priority goals to be carried over into the classroom activities.v. Follow-up concerns raised by team members.w. Update IEP goals.x. Outline, (demonstrate when necessary individualized strategies used to obtain objectives.y. Provide or adapt materials to facilitate language and speech production in the classroom.z. Integrate information and strategies offered by team members and other professionals.STANDARD 2: Therapy Environment Managementa. Responsible for health and safety of children during therapy sessions.b. Responsible for the safety of all children during the school day.STANDARD 3: Professional Behaviora. Cooperate and conducts self at all times in a professional manner appropriate to preschool special education populations.b. Adhere to specific program policies and procedures.c. Perform other duties as assigned.STANDARD 4: Professional Developmenta. Participate in program required in-services and acts in an appropriate manner.b. Participate in continuing education activities and seeks support to enhance knowledge in areas pertinent to children in the program.STANDARD 5: Adheres to general policies of the organization/regulators including:a. Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethical Conductb. Emergency/disaster preparedness protocols.c. Fire/safety protocols.d. Departmental in-service education program requirements.e. Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc.).f. Quality improvement activities.g. Infection control practices and proceduresh. Regulatory requirements.STANDARD 6: Performs other related duties as required.a. Demonstrate understanding of the needs of children and visitors for each specific age group.b. Address safety and psychological needs of the special age groups, as appropriate, in the performance of work activities.c. Address the needs of special groups, hearing impaired, physically challenged and various issues relating to the program and facility.d. Maintain child and family confidentiality.e. Demonstrate concern for participants’ dignity.f. Display initiative and interest in departmental advancement/needs.g. Is consistently courteous and considerate, in person and on the telephone, in interactions with children and others such as family, visitors, vendors, and other employees.h. Exhibits the “At Your Service” attitude, i.e., smiles, uses positive eye contact, is friendly, open and approachable.i. Responds quickly to child(ren) and/or parent/guardian’s request, refers to appropriate member of the care team, if necessary, and informs supervisor of actions taken.j. Seek to improve job knowledge through observation and questions.Qualifications:Master’s degree in speech-language pathology and certification by the New York State Department of Education as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) required. New York State licensure in Speech Language Pathology and Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA required.Experience in PROMPT and early childhood special needs population assessment and treatment required.Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of speech-language disorders as normally acquired through completion of a Master’s degree in speech-language pathology required.
