POSITION OVERVIEW: The Babylon Union Free School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced K-12 Director of Special Education. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services across the district. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Overseeing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.Coordinating and monitoring specialized services, accommodations, and interventions to meet students’ unique learning requirements.Ensuring compliance with legal regulations and guidelines related to special education, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).Collaborating with teachers, support staff, and administrators to foster an inclusive and supportive earning environment for students with special needs.Providing professional development opportunities and training for educators to enhance their understanding of special education practices.Assessing student progress and making data-driven decisions to improve instructional strategies and interventions.Advocating for students with special needs and their families, ensuring their rights are protected and their voices are heard.Managing and allocating resources effectively to support the special education program.Developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, agencies and outside service providers to enhance support services for students with special needs.Keeping up to date with research and best practices in special education to inform decision-making and program development.
