The Alexandria Central School District is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Special Education teaching position in a 12:1:1 self-contained classroom beginning August 18, 2025. Candidates must hold valid New York State certification in Special Education. Additional certifications are preferred but not required. The probationary appointment will be determined in accordance with certification, education, NYS Education Law, and the ACFA Teachers’ Contract.We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate educator to support students with significant academic and behavioral needs in a highly structured, supportive environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to individualized instruction and collaboration with families and colleagues.Primary Responsibilities Include:Develop and Implement IEPs: Create and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with NYSED regulations, tailored to student strengths, needs, and goals.Provide Specialized Instruction: Deliver core academic content using individualized strategies and instructional scaffolds to support a range of learning needs and styles.Support Behavioral and Social-Emotional Development: Implement behavioral intervention plans (BIPs), utilize de-escalation techniques, and promote social-emotional learning in alignment with IEP goals.Maintain a Structured and Safe Environment: Establish clear routines, behavioral expectations, and a classroom culture that promotes student dignity and respect.Differentiate Curriculum and Assessment: Modify curriculum materials and assessment strategies to meet each student’s academic level and functional needs.Collect and Analyze Data: Track academic and behavioral progress aligned to IEP goals; use data to guide instruction and interventions.Communicate with Stakeholders: Engage regularly with families, service providers, and school staff to support student growth and maintain clear lines of communication.Collaborate with a Multi-Disciplinary Team: Work closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school support staff to deliver a cohesive and comprehensive educational program.Participate in CSE Processes: Contribute to Committee on Special Education meetings, annual reviews, and re-evaluations as needed.Engage in Professional Development: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in special education, behavioral support, and instructional methods through NYSED-approved opportunities.Alexandria Central School District is a rural district in the heart of the Thousand Islands region, serving about 500 students in a UPK-12 setting.
