12 months FTESummary: Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability, the Instructional Coach (IC) organizes, coordinates, implements, and participates in the activities that assure educational objectives are accomplished and accountability metrics are achieved. The IC is an active member of the school’s leadership team, which collaborates regularly on setting the school’s strategic direction. The IC is responsible for the implementation of educational standards, facilitating group processes toward common objectives, the conversion of broad program goals into action plans, and integrating and aligning educational programs. The IC is responsible for supporting and ensuring that educational objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement, instructional excellence, and community support in all subject areas. This includes providing development of and oversight for curriculum and instruction, including curriculum audits and the implementation of recommendations, coaching, leading professional development, leading data-driven decision-making, and managing all internal academic assessments and data coordination.The IC evaluates and provides leadership for the overall instructional program of the school, with particular emphasis on the articulation of the program between the middle school and the high school. The IC shall share responsibility with the DCIA for the cooperative working relationship among building principals, department heads/teacher leaders and such instructional and curriculum committees as are necessary to establish a well coordinated program of education from grade six through grade twelve.They must have a solid knowledge of CSE NYS law, guidelines and regulations as related to Special Education; Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; The ability to interpret an extensive variety of data and deal with several abstract and concrete variables; the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community; The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.They will work with clerical support to schedule, arrange CSE meetings; Chairs each CSE meeting and makes sure the IEPs are accurately and completely prepared. Communicate with parents, staff, and agencies regarding CSE meetings and recommendations. They are responsible for supporting all matters related to ENL services as well as perform and complete other duties/responsibilities as specifically determined by the DCIA and/or designee.LEADERSHIP/ADMINISTRATION:Supervises the effective and efficient implementation of the educational and instructional programs in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and the provisions of the school’s Accountability Plan and its authorizer, the SUNY Charter Schools Institute (CSI).Designee as the SPED/Services CoordinatorResponsible for supporting the development of annual goals and action planning.Assists in the creation of all reports, records, and other paperwork that may be appropriate to the school's administration.Keeps the DCIA informed and works cooperatively with all other building administrators.Leads appropriate professional meetings.Establishes and maintains efficient administrative procedures to support the teaching and learning functions of the school.Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.CURRICULUM/INSTRUCTION/PROGRAMS:Responsible for supporting the implementation of curriculum aligned with state frameworks, student and teacher performance objectives, curriculum standards and proficiencies in all subject areas.Coaches educators on the development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum and instruction and assumes responsibility for the implementation of approved programs. Coordinates and articulates curriculum among and between the grades.Responsible for the formulation, planning, and implementation of the professional development program for teachers.Works with building principals and teacher leaders in the evaluation of instructional materials, including textbooks, digital resources, library/media acquisitions, and other instructional materials.Ensures the effective use of technology in the teaching-learning process.Provides leadership in developing plans for instructional research; pilot studies for curriculum, instruction, and technology; and new courses of study.Responsible for assessing results of programs and addressing areas in need of improvement.CSE/PROGRAM:Coordination of all annual review meetings 6-12. The SPED/Services Coordinator will assist and support the day to day management of CSE functions district wide.Uphold legal requirements and IDEA regulations and NYSED Part 200 & 201.Work with each students home district and their respective CSE ChairPersonAssist in the compliance and submission of all NYS Special Education State Performance Plan requirements.Help determine appropriate programming decisions for students in the least restrictive environment.Facilitate Committee on Special Education meetings.Monitor the delivery of special education programs and services to ensure compliance with legal guidelines and provide technical assistance, resources and support as needed.Engage special education and related service staff to ensure high quality programs and services are being provided pursuant to each student’s IEP.Assist families and providers through ongoing communication and support.Assist in the planning and implementation of staff development in-service training around all CSE responsibilities.Monitor and assist providers with IEP writing, development and implementation.Collaborate with PPS administrators, principals, and assistant principals.Demonstrate strong communication skills and leadership qualities to work effectively with all stakeholders.Perform other tasks as assigned.STUDENT SERVICES:Works with building principals and teacher leaders to develop plans for assessing and monitoring the progress of all students. Coordinates and articulates assessment among grades.SPED/Services Coordinator and MTSS lead responsible for working directly with individual students home district regarding IEPs.Creates and monitors the system to maintain individual student records and reports of pupil progress.PERSONNEL:Supervises and manages supervisees in compliance with local, state, and federal law and the policies and procedures of the school district.Observes and evaluates instructional staff and provides appropriate coaching, modeling, and feedback on the implementation of instruction as directed by the DCIAWith building principals, responsible for developing and directing the orientation and induction program for new teachers, including assigning mentors.Promotes effective communication and cooperation among administrators and teacher leaders.SCHOOL-COMMUNITY:Promotes and assists in the coordination of effective communication.Develops and maintains good relations with the school community.Demonstrates skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.Articulates the school’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicits its support in realizing the school's mission.Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs and initiates activities to meet those needs.Demonstrates use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.Monitors professional research and disseminates ideas and information to other professionals.Seeks talent and support from the community to further the educational goals of the school.Works cooperatively with colleagues within the school and from other schools.Serves on school wide committees, participates in school wide activities, and represents the school as warranted, or as directed by the Superintendent/CEO.PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:Sets goals for self-improvement; carries out individual growth plan.Maintains a high level of competence in the field of education, remaining current in issues related to areas of responsibility.Maintains a high level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic.Minimum education required: Degree Required: 1st or 2nd year graduate level: Specialist Degree - Master’s or higherMajor field or degree: Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or related field.Essential/subject knowledge required: Assessment, data, and school improvement process. Knowledge of varied instructional strategies, how to support the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment, and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of, and ability to, develop, monitor and evaluate curricular and instructional plans. Knowledge of understanding of adolescent physical, emotional, and intellectual development. Knowledge of and experience with culturally responsive education and restorative practices.Additional Required Experience: At least 5 classroom years teaching experience, or equivalent. Special Education experience.Required Supervisory Experience: Minimum one year administrative experience supervising instructional programming/staff, or equivalent, is required. Experience and/or knowledge of charter schools preferred. LICENSE/Certification required upon hiring: Possess or be eligible for NYS Professional/Permanent Teaching Certification, or commensurate experience.
