The South Huntington School District is located in western Suffolk County, about 35 miles east of New York City, along the beautiful north shore of Long Island. We are part of the historic Town of Huntington that dates back to 1653. The district serves a diverse population of more than 5,500 students in seven buildings including two K-2 primary centers (Oakwood and Countrywood), two 3-5 intermediate schools (Birchwood and Maplewood), one 6th Grade Center (Silas Wood), one middle school (Stimson) and one high school (Walt Whitman).
The mission of the South Huntington community is to empower all children to maximize their potential by teaching them the necessary academic skills and enabling them to develop the positive social and moral skills required to become contributing members of society. We strive to provide all children with a safe and secure environment and a place where everyone is treated with respect.
